Southwest earnings exceed estimates
According to Bloomberg business, Schlangenstein (2016) reports that Southwest Airlines fourth quarter sales in 2015 reached $4.98 billion, more than what analysts predicted, mainly because of the reduction in fuel prices. The fuel cost is 23% lower compared to the previous year which saves up to $189 million. In this way southwest has to pay less for fuel prices and is able to fly to more places. In conclusion, the company’s profit for the fourth quarter of 2015, excluding special items, increased by 59% from last year to reach up to $591 million. (Bloomberg Business, 2016)
